The Minister for Disabilities, Penny Simmonds yesterday announced that millions of dollars in funding for people with disabilities and their caregivers would be cut off.

What did disabled people do to justify having millions of dollars in funding that would have demonstrably helped them and their families get so recklessly cut off?

I struggle to make any sense of it at all – social policy, economic policy or otherwise. To me it seems that this Government has decided it is its mission to cause as much socio-economic harm as it possibly can. Socio-economic vandalism/arson/thuggery – call it what you will. But to attack programmes that support the most vulnerable people in New Zealand just to fund tax cuts is beyond cruel.

It. Is. DYSTOPIAN.

Even after being partially walked back by Ms Simmonds, the changes being announced are still a kick in the gut for a lot of vulnerable people.

It is still dystopian.
